Brilliant Bees!

Image
We have been learning about bees and their important role as pollinators. Today Year 3 were treated to a real life handling session with some frames provided by a local bee keeper and grandparent of one of our class members. It was fascinating to see the intricate hexagonal cells.

Homes through History

Image
Year 3 launched our new History topic with a walk around Topsham to spot historical buildings. The oldest building we found was the Church House on Fore Street built in 1385! We also learned that some buildings were designed to look older than they are, like the ‘mock Tudor’ building actually covering a structure from the 17th century.

Marvellous Muffin Makers!

This half term our DT project was Cooking. The children learned a basic muffin recipe and then they designed their own flavour combinations to make their own muffins. We had the expert help of Harry, Elliot’s Mum, who is a Food Writer. She gave us a brilliant talk and demonstration of flavour combinations with a fabulous 4 tiered cake!

Oil Pastel Skills

We started our new Art unit on World Book Day, learning new skills using oil pastels.  We learned how to use hard pressure and light pressure blends, using white, black and contrasting colours.  We then applied them to create pieces of collage for our class artwork based on the book Windows by Julia Denos. Our finished collage will be up on display in the Library soon!
